Hey friends!
As a food blogger, I find myself gravitating towards creating recipes around holidays I don’t even celebrate anymore.
Easter is one of those holidays that I remember celebrating as a kid, but only in terms of the Easter bunny. I was mostly raised Jewish as a young child, but there was still celebration of the general Christian holidays as well.
Truly, we were not a religious family. My grandparents (particularly my grandfather) were, so we would always have Easter brunch. The house would be filled with boisterous laughter, food, tons of family, and more food.
I am sure there were Easter egg hunts at some point and I still remember the smell of vinegar from dying the eggs… The memories are a bit foggy at this point.
The traditions of Easter have fallen away from me as an adult and it isn’t a holiday we celebrate anymore. The gatherings no longer happen and the Easter egg hunts are left to others. I don’t know if anyone else can relate…
I’m not really sad about this loss, though. Instead of worrying about the Easter bunny or dying eggs, I turn to the food traditions for that sense of springtime.
