sunday social issue no. 11: chili & cornbread night
Cast iron cornbread, creative toppings, and a very intentional night in.
My friends,
I don’t know about you, but everything feels… a lot right now. Seeing images of a freaking 5-year-old child being detained absolutely broke me this week. Our son is young and I cannot even imagine what he would do in that situation. I’m at a loss at this point as a parent. The conversations I’m having with my young child are about things that I never had to learn about when I was his age.
The systems are broken. Every time you open your phone, it’s another reminder that this country is deeply unwell and somehow expects us to just keep going like that’s normal.
And honestly? I’m tired.
When things feel this heavy, I don’t want productivity hacks or “just stay positive” nonsense. I want to hold my friends and family closer than ever. I want something grounding. Something warm. Something I can control.
So today, we’re talking about Chili & Cornbread Night for Sunday Social. I keep coming back to the fact that we need to stay together in this moment. We need each other for strength and comfort.
Of course this night is not presented as a solution (because cornbread cannot fix late-stage capitalism), but as a small, intentional ritual of sorts. One pot, whether it’s your instant pot or on the stovetop. One skillet in the oven.
A night that says: for the next hour, I’m allowed to exist quietly and eat something comforting with my favorite people.
Let’s make it a thing, ok?
